A producer is someone who can manage the recording process from end to end: gathering requirements, hiring specialists if needed (such as musicians or engineers), choosing equipment, coordinating with artist agents, and booking studio time. The producer supervises recording, mixing, and mastering. A producer may fulfill one, some, or all of these functions, depending on the scope of the project. A producer-engineer can perform some of the technical roles themselves, instead of hiring specialists. The producer's main function is to relieve the artist of technical and administrative burdens, and deliver a finished product that fits the artist's vision.
Mixing adjusts the relative loudness and tone of a track's instruments into a finished song. The instruments in a mix are featured depending on their role. Lead instruments are edged forward. The timbre of each instrument is adjusted to give it space alongside the other instruments, so that all have a well-defined function in the mix.
Mastering prepares the finished stereo mix for distribution to an audience. Mastering adjusts the overall tonal balance so that the track is neither too bright nor dull. The loudness of the track is adjusted to fit alongside other tracks of the same genre, for example big and punchy for pop/dance, airy and subtle for ambient/classical/folk.Â
Stem mastering combines more than one stereo mix. Stems are stereo sub-mixes of a song's primary groupings (e.g. separate mixes for each of vocals, instruments, bass, and drums). This allows the mastering engineer to process each grouping in an ideal way without affecting the others, say by brightening the vocals without affecting cymbals and hi-hats.
You can use all, or any combination of the following services. We can -
record your instruments as (live) stereo or multi-track.
mix multi-tracks down to a balanced stereo track
master the stereo track into a polished product for distribution
upload the recording to social media
